The cabinet under the sink is often treated as a catch-all space for things we don’t know where else to put. While it may seem convenient, it’s actually one of the worst places to store certain items. Humidity, leaks, and limited ventilation can quickly damage or spoil what’s kept there. Here are five things you should never store under your sink—and why.
1. Paper and Cardboard

Even a well-maintained sink can have minor leaks or moisture buildup. Humidity easily ruins paper products such as napkins, paper towels, bags, or cardboard boxes. They soften, grow mold, or fall apart, and anything stored inside boxes may also be damaged.
2. Small Appliances
Moisture is an enemy of electrical items. Storing hand blenders, food processors, or any small appliance under the sink risks short-circuiting, rust, or permanent damage. Instead, keep them in a dry cabinet—ideally in their original packaging—to ensure they last longer.
3. Dishcloths and Sponges
