Ingredients
- 3–4 lb corned beef brisket (with seasoning packet) 
- 6–8 cups water (or enough to cover the meat) 
- 1 tablespoon mustard seeds (if seasoning packet is unavailable) 
- 1 teaspoon peppercorns 
- 2 bay leaves 
- 1 small head of cabbage, chopped 
- 4 large carrots, peeled and cut into chunks 
- 4–5 medium potatoes, quartered 
- Salt and pepper, to taste
