Brown Sugar Glazed Ham

Brown sugar glazed ham is slow cooked in the oven with brown sugar, pineapple slices, and cloves. This delicious glazed ham recipe is perfect for Thanksgiving and holiday dinners. It’s the most delicious Holiday ham!

Holiday meals are not complete without a sweet and salty glaze for ham. Brown sugar ham glaze caramelizes as it slow cooks in the oven. Quick to prepare, in about 5-minutes and adds so much moisture and flavor to a spiral sliced ham. (Very similar to a honey baked ham!)

Our holiday ham always had a delicious glaze, nothing fancy – just plenty of incredible holiday flavors. My mom used to places slices of pineapples in between the slices of a pre-sliced honey ham along with cloves. I love the incredible aromas a brown sugar glazed ham fills up the entire house as it slow cooks! (and how simplistic it is to make!)

This glazed ham recipe is very similar to a honey baked ham. You’ll want to purchase a fully-cooked ham, either spiral sliced or unsliced. The secret is the mixture of pineapple juices, brown sugar, ground cloves, and a can of lemon lime soda. That is the secret ingredient that my grandfather used to use on his honey ham.

Why this recipe works

  • Made with simple ingredients – readily available in your local grocery store.
  • Simple to follow directions.
  • Locks in the moisture – Glazing a ham seals in moisture, making it super juicy and flavorful.
  • Feeds a crowd – A whole ham feeds quite a bit of people for a holiday dinner and will give you plenty of leftovers. Everything from ham sliders, Quiche with ham, breakfast sandwiches on Buttermilk Biscuits and split pea soup. You could even cut up leftover ham and put it into Baked Beans.

How to make a Glazed Ham

Preheat the oven to 275 degrees F.

Unwrap the ham and place into a shallow baking pan or dish, flat side down.

Place pineapple slices in between the ham slices or simply lay them in the pan around the ham. Sprinkle with the ham with brown sugar and ground cloves. Pour the can of lemon lime soda around the ham.

Cover the entire pan with aluminum foil. Place the baking pan in the preheated oven. Cook for approximately 15 minutes per pound until heated through. Do not overheat.

Spoon the juices over the ham about every 30 minutes.

Once the ham is done cooking, pour the juices into a medium saucepan. Whisk in the cornstarch and cook over medium to high heat. Whisk as the mixture cooks to thicken slightly. Remove from the heat and pour over the ham.

Recipe FAQs

Should a glazed ham be covered when baking?

Put some aluminum foil over your ham while it’s cooking. If you don’t cover the ham while cooking, it will quickly dry out. Remove the aluminum foil during the last half of cooking, to apply the glaze.

How do you heat and glaze a fully cooked ham?

Cook at 275 degrees F for 15 minutes per one pound of ham. Baste the ham as it cooks to seal in the moisture and create a delicious glaze.

Instructions

Brown Sugar Glazed Ham

  • Preheat the oven to 275 degrees F.

  • Place pineapple slices in between the ham slices or simply lay them in the pan around the ham. Sprinkle with the ham with brown sugar and ground cloves. Pour the can of lemon lime soda around the ham.
