Bring water and a pinch of salt to a boil in a saucepan.
Gradually add maize meal while stirring continuously to avoid lumps.
Reduce heat and simmer for 10–15 minutes, stirring occasionally, until thick and smooth. Set aside and keep warm.
2. Make the Chakalaka:
Heat oil in a skillet over medium heat. Sauté onions, garlic, and bell pepper until soft.
Add grated carrots, curry powder, chili powder, tomato paste, and baked beans if using.
Simmer for 10–15 minutes, stirring occasionally, until vegetables are tender and flavors meld. Season with salt and pepper.
3. Grill the Meat:
Season your meat with salt, pepper, or marinade of choice.
Grill over medium-high heat until cooked through, turning occasionally for even browning.
4. Serve:
Plate a portion of pap, spoon over chakalaka, and top with your grilled meat. Serve immediately for a delicious, hearty meal.
