Dryer Vent Safety Guide: How to Vacuum Your Dryer Vent Properly

  • Unplug the dryer from the wall.

  • If gas powered, turn off the gas supply for safety.

  • Carefully pull the dryer away from the wall to access the vent.

2. Disconnect the Dryer Vent Hose

  • Locate the vent tube attached to the back of the dryer.

  • Loosen the clamp and detach the hose.

3. Vacuum the Hose

  • Insert your vacuum hose into the vent tube.

  • Move slowly and reach as far as possible to remove lint buildup.

  • Repeat until no lint remains.

4. Clean the Dryer Vent Port

  • Vacuum inside the opening on the back of the dryer.

  • Wipe any dust from around the area with a microfiber cloth.

5. Clean the Wall Vent

  • Go to the wall opening and vacuum as far inside as you can.

  • Use a dryer vent brush to push and pull lint out if needed.

6. Check the Outside Vent

  • Locate the exterior dryer vent on your home.

  • Remove any visible lint or debris.

  • Make sure the flap opens freely — airflow must be clear.
