Kiowa Indian Frybread

  • In a large bowl, combine flour, baking powder, salt, and sugar (or honey).

  • Gradually add milk, mixing until you have a sticky dough. If too dry, add more milk a little at a time.

  • Shape the Frybread

    • Turn dough onto a floured surface and gently roll it in flour.

    • Pinch off biscuit-sized pieces.

    • Lightly press each piece with your fingers, flatten slightly, and use your index finger to poke a hole in the center.

  • Fry the Bread

    • Heat a large, deep pan with enough oil for deep frying.

    • Fry 2–3 pieces at a time.

    • When edges turn golden, flip and fry the other side until golden brown.

  • Drain & Serve
