July 22, 1985, was meant to be a day of unparalleled joy for the Henderson family. Hailing from Manchester, England, Robert and Margaret Henderson had won the prize of a lifetime: an exclusive preview tour of the Euro Disney construction site in Marne-la-Vallée, France. Two years before the park would officially open its gates to the world, a select group of contest winners and media personnel were invited to witness the creation of the “Magic Kingdom.” For 8-year-old identical twins Tommy and Billy, known for their insatiable curiosity and boundless energy, it was a dream come true.
The site was a sprawling landscape of potential, covering over 2,000 hectares of exposed foundations, half-built castles, and heavy machinery. It was a place where fantasy was being engineered from concrete and steel. The tour guides, proud Disney Imagineers, led the group through what would eventually become iconic lands like Main Street U.S.A. and Fantasyland. But amidst the excitement and the grand descriptions of future attractions, a silent danger lurked. The park was not yet a playground; it was an active, hazardous construction zone.
