You’re doing it all wrong. Here’s the right way to dust furniture

Contrary to popular belief, dusting should be done after vacuuming, not before. Vacuuming can stir up dust that then settles back onto surfaces. By dusting after vacuuming, you ensure that any remaining dust is captured.
This order of operations is particularly important if you have carpets, as vacuuming can agitate dust trapped in carpet fibers. By saving dusting for last, you can be sure that you are tackling the dust that’s been stirred up during the cleaning process.
5. Don’t Forget the Tops: Start Dusting from High to Low
Dusting from top to bottom is a key strategy to ensure you are not re-contaminating areas you’ve already cleaned. Start with ceiling fans, light fixtures, and the tops of cabinets before moving to lower surfaces.
Gravity causes dust to fall, so by starting high and working your way down, you can ensure that any dust you dislodge from upper surfaces will be captured as you move down through the room.
