Peel the onion and trim the stem end, keeping it intact so it holds together.
Slice the onion into thin petals, being careful not to cut all the way through.
Make the Seasoned Flour
In a bowl, mix flour, paprika, cayenne, garlic powder, oregano, salt, and pepper.
Coat the Onion
Gently separate the onion petals.
Dredge the onion in the seasoned flour, making sure each petal is coated well.
Fry to Perfection
Heat oil in a deep fryer or large pot to 350°F (175°C).
Carefully lower the coated onion into the hot oil, cut-side down first.
Fry for 5–7 minutes, or until golden brown and crispy.
Drain and Serve
Remove the onion and drain on paper towels.
Serve immediately with your favorite dipping sauce.
