  • ½ cup milk or cream

  • Salt and pepper, to taste

For the Gravy:

  • 3 tbsp pan drippings from fried steak or 3 tbsp butter

  • 3 tbsp all-purpose flour

  • 2 cups milk

  • Salt and pepper, to taste

For the Veggies:

  • 1 lb fresh green beans, trimmed

  • 2–3 ripe garden tomatoes, sliced

  • Salt, pepper, and a touch of butter (optional)
