Ingredients:
- 2 cups dried beans (pinto or navy), soaked overnight 
- 6 cups water or broth 
- 1 onion, chopped 
- 2 cloves garlic, minced 
- Salt and pepper, to taste 
- Optional: ham hock or smoked sausage 
Instructions:
- In a large pot, combine beans, water/broth, onion, garlic, and ham hock/sausage if using. 
- Bring to a boil, then reduce heat and simmer 1–2 hours until beans are tender. 
- Season with salt and pepper.
