Preheat Oven: Set oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour a 9-inch cake pan.
Mix Dry Ingredients: In a bowl, whisk together flour, baking powder, baking soda, salt, and spices.
Cream Butter & Sugar: In a separate bowl, beat butter and sugar until light and fluffy. Add eggs one at a time, then stir in vanilla extract.
Combine Wet & Dry: Gradually fold in dry ingredients alternately with yogurt (or milk) until a smooth batter forms. Fold in nuts if using.
Bake: Pour batter into the prepared pan and bake for 35–40 minutes, or until a toothpick comes out clean. Let cool completely.
Prepare Filling: Beat cream cheese with powdered sugar and vanilla until smooth. Slice cooled cake in half horizontally and spread the cream cheese filling between the layers.
Serve: Optionally dust with powdered sugar or top with chopped nuts. Slice and enjoy!
