NYC-Style Chocolate Chip Cookies

  1. Preheat Oven: Preheat to 375°F (190°C). Line baking sheets with parchment paper.

  2. Mix Dry Ingredients: In a medium bowl, whisk together flour, baking soda, and salt.

  3. Cream Butter & Sugars: In a large bowl, beat butter, granulated sugar, and brown sugar until creamy. Add vanilla extract and eggs, one at a time, mixing well.

  4. Combine Wet & Dry: Gradually add flour mixture to the wet ingredients until just combined. Fold in chocolate chips (and nuts, if using).

  5. Form Cookies: Scoop large portions of dough (about ¼ cup each) onto prepared baking sheets, leaving space for spreading.

  6. Bake: Bake 12–15 minutes, or until the edges are golden but the centers remain soft. Do not overbake for a chewy texture.

  7. Cool: Let cookies cool on the baking sheet for 5 minutes, then transfer to a wire rack to cool completely.
