Salisbury Steak with Onion Gravy

  1. Prepare the Steaks:
In a large bowl, combine ground beef, breadcrumbs, chopped onions, egg, salt, and black pepper. Mix until well incorporated.

  2. Shape the Steaks:
Divide the mixture into 4 equal portions and shape each into a steak.

  3. Cook the Steaks:
In a large skillet, cook steaks over medium heat for 10 minutes, browning both sides. Remove from the pan and set aside.

  4. Make the Gravy:
In the same pan, add beef broth, sliced onions, and mushrooms. Bring to a boil, then reduce heat to low, cover, and simmer until steaks are no longer pink in the center (about 10 minutes).

  5. Thicken the Gravy:
In a small bowl, mix cornstarch with water to create a slurry. Pour into the boiling broth mixture and stir constantly until the gravy thickens.

  6. Serve:
Place the cooked steaks on a platter and pour the thickened gravy over them. Serve hot with mashed potatoes, rice, or your favorite sides.
