Southern Strawberry Basil Sweet Tea

  1. Make the Syrup: In a saucepan, combine 2 cups of water and 1 cup of sugar. Heat over medium heat, stirring until the sugar dissolves.

  2. Infuse the Flavor: Add the strawberries and basil leaves to the saucepan. Simmer for about 10 minutes, until the strawberries are soft and the basil is fragrant.

  3. Brew the Tea: Steep the black tea bags in 4 cups of boiling water for about 5 minutes. Remove the tea bags and set aside.

  4. Strain and Combine: Strain the strawberry-basil syrup through a fine mesh sieve into the brewed tea, pressing down on the solids to release all the flavor.

  5. Finish the Tea: Add 4 cups of cold water to the mixture and stir well.

  6. Chill and Serve: Refrigerate for at least 2 hours before serving. Pour over ice and garnish with basil leaves and lemon slices.
